How can I prepare for my COVID-19 Vaccination appointment?

  • Prior to arriving, use the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool to help determine if you or your family member need further assessment for COVID-19.
  • Arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to allow sufficient time to fill out pre-vaccination and consent forms.
  • Bring your provincial health card, if you have one.
  • Wear a mask at all times.
  • Wear suitable clothing so that your upper arm is easily accessible for the injection.
  • Budget your time to include a 15-minute wait at the pharmacy after your injection. This is to make sure that you do not have a reaction to the vaccine. Side effects of getting the COVID-19 vaccine are relatively mild and similar to what you might experience with other vaccines. However, as with all vaccines, your pharmacy team will be monitoring you if you do experience a serious side effect.

Testing

Testing for COVID-19 is recommended for anyone with cold, influenza or COVID-like symptoms, even mild symptoms. Testing is not required if you do not have symptoms. You do not need a referral or to call 8-1-1. Learn more about testing and where you can get tested.

Use the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool to help determine if you or your family member need further assessment for COVID-19. The Self-Assessment Tool is available online or as an App from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

Symptoms

Symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other respiratory illnesses including the flu and common cold. Some people may experience mild symptoms, while others have more severe symptoms. If you have COVID-19, or think you might have it, help prevent spreading it to others by self-isolating from the start of your symptoms. If you are sick, stay home.
